In Jewell's first year in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, three athletes received First Team All Conference selections among the 17 GLVC schools.
In tennis, Paula Peters and Shane Giannetti were selected; in men's basketball, Nick Larson was picked.
Having three athletes selected as members of the first team All-GLVC is our #5 story of the year.
Sophomore Paula Peters, a native of Caunton, Nottinghamshire, England played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Cardinals, going 18-6 in singles and 18-6 in doubles.
Shane Giannetti, a native of Oyster Bay, N.Y., was a sophomore playing No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. He was 13-8 in singles and 13-8 in doubles play.
Nick Larson, who graduated in May, finished the 2011 season averaging 19.1 points per game and pulled down an average of 11.3 rebounds per game. He also finished fourth in scoring, first in rebounding, third in field goal percentage and seventh in blocked shots in the GLVC in Jewell's inaugural season in the NCAA Division II.
