The 1960 men's basketball team, coached by Jim Nelson, finished the year 23-10 which tied the 1956-57 squad for the most wins in school history and became Jewell's first team to reach the NAIA Final Four at a time when the NAIA had only one division with over 500 schools competing for the title.

In the national tournament they defeated Stetson University (Fla.), Parsons College (Iowa), and New Mexico Highlands University before falling in the semifinals to eventual national champion, Southwest Texas State. In the Cardinals win at Westminster during the regular season, they also stopped the Blue Jays 19-game home court winning streak.

The third place game versus Tennessee State was played with experimental Olympic rules that included a 30-second shot clock, a cone shaped free throw lane, no shot attempts on offensive fouls and no free throw bonus in effect.

Team Members: Jim Dudley, Bob Frazier, Charlie Rutherford, George Payne, Dick Cox, John Hammon, Gary White, Wayne Kuhlman, Tom Lewis, John Hickman, Gary Carter, Robert Ulrich, Dubbie Hobbs (manager)
