Coached by Darrel Gourley, the 1977 Track team won both the Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships. 

The Indoor Championship was capped by a school record performance in the high jump (6’8”) by Stark Nelson. Other first-place finishes in the conference meet included Ken Tounzen (mile); Tim Schmid (2-mile); Stark Nelson (triple jump); Jerry Floyd (HH); and Matt Ausmus (880).

Additional indoor records included: Jerry Floyd (7.2 in the 60-yard low hurdles); Tim Schmid (9:26.8 in the 2-mile run); Steve Harrison (4:15.4 in the mile run); and the Mile Relay team of John Seymour, Bob Symons, Bob McPhee and Steve Sitler (3:30.7). 

In the outdoor meet, the star was Jerry Floyd, who scored 31 points by winning the high hurdles and the triple jump and placing in the intermediate hurdles, high jump and long jump. 

New outdoor records were established by Bob McPhee (1:55.3 in the 880), Steve Harrison (4:16.6 in the mile), George Poland (14:33.6 in the 3-mile run and 31:15 in the 6-mile run), and the sprint medley relay (3:32.3 by Jim Noland, Bob Symons, Steve Sitler, Bob McPhee).
