One of the best distance runners of his time, Bob Hatcher held records in the mile, two mile, two mile relay, and distance medley relay, in addition to several course records in cross country, at the time of his graduation from Jewell. In total, he earned eight varsity letters and was a three-time team captain in cross country and once in track and field. He was a member of six Missouri College Athletic Union championship teams, three in each sport, and as an individual placed 27th at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships twice, in 1961 and 1963.
