David Cunningham attended Jewell from 1977-1981. He was a Physical Education major and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was a four-year letter winner in football. During his time at Jewell the Cardinals were co-Champions twice. Cunningham was a three time 1st Team All-Conference and All-District selection. He was an NAIA 2nd Team All American in 1978 and 1980. He held Jewell’s single season (1,426 yards) and career rushing records (3,926 yards). He was named Jewell’s Athlete of the Year in 1981, (this is the Cecil R. Martin Award). His father, Bill Cunningham, is also a member of Jewell’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
