Mike Newman attended Jewell from 1980-1984. He was a letter winner in both football and baseball. He was a four year starter in football and 3-time All Conference and All-American selection. Newman was a first Team All-American as a senior. As a defensive back, he set the school record for interceptions with 29. The football team’s record during his time on the team was 42-6-1. This outstanding record included a second place finish in the nation in 1982. Newman was also an All-Conference and All-District performer in baseball. He also helped his team to win two conference titles.
