Norris Patterson worked as Coach/ Athletic Director of Jewell from 1950-1969. He also worked as an administrator from 1975-1988. He came to Jewell in the fall of 1950 (along with Jim Nelson) and immediately put Jewell on the National Map in athletics. As head football coach for 18 years his overall record was a phenomenal 134-33-9. He guided the Cards to 13 MCAU titles and five 2nd place finishes. Patterson is also a member of the NAIA Football Hall of Fame, the NACDA Athletic Directors Hall of Fame, the Missouri Valley College Hall of Fame, The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and the William Jewell College Hall of Distinguished Teachers. He guided the Cardinal baseball squad to four conference titles. He also served as chairman of the Department of Physical Education and Director of Athletics. Jewell’s football field is named in his honor
