A 2002 graduate, Sara Breedlove is one of the finest long distance runners in Jewell history. 

In cross country she took part in the NAIA National Championships three times, and was the 1999 Heart of America Conference Champion, leading the Cardinals to the NAIA Region V title. 

In indoor track she was a three-time national qualifier. As a senior she was named All-America after placing sixth in the 5000 meters.

In outdoor track, she was again an All-American in the 5,000 meter run, participating in the national meet twice, as a sophomore and senior.  At the time of her graduation she held records in all three sports:  5k, 10,000 meters, 3,000 meters (indoor and outdoor), 5,000 meters (indoor and outdoor), mile run, 4x800 relay, 4,000 meter distance medley relay and the 1,500 meters.

A five-time conference champion, Breedlove was became one of only six women to win the Vicki Larason Landman Award for Female Athlete of the Year twice. In addition she received the Omar William Nadler Award in 2001, making her one of only three women to have received both awards.
