A member of some of the best teams in Cardinal football history, Steve Hodges led Jewell to a 42-6-2 record during his four-year career with three conference titles, two NAIA national semifinal appearances and one runner-up finish in 1982. He was twice named NAIA All-America, with second team honors as a senior after an honorable mention selection the previous season. Additionally, he earned three All-HAAC awards and was a First Team All-District performer. He graduated as the program leader with 247 carries (now second) and ranked second with more than 1,100 yards rushing as a senior (now seventh).
