Steve Lucas graduated from Macon Missouri High School in 1964.

Lucas lettered all four years in both football and track. He played on MCAU Conference Championship teams in football. The Cardinals record during his career was 29-8-1 (6-3, 7-2, 6-3, 10-0-1). He led the MCAU conference in scoring and yards-per carry as a junior and senior. Lucas was named 1st Team MCAU All-Conference both years and was an NAIA, AP and UPI Honorable Mention All-American selection as a senior. He led the nation in yards-per-carry (9.1) as a senior. In track, he won the conference 100 yard dash title as a sophomore and the conference indoor 60-yard dash title as a junior and senior. He also finished 2nd twice and 3rd once in the outdoor 100. Lucas double majored in Physical Education and History.

Later, Steve Lucas coached at Jefferson City Missouri High School with the legendary coach, Pete Atkins from 1968-69. He also coached at Macon Missouri High School with Hugh Dunn from 1969 -70. He Lucas also served in the military in Vietnam from 1970-71. He worked in human resource management with such companies as Sprint, Atlantic Richfield and Kraft. He is currently the Director of Human Resources for Redneck Trailer Supplies in Springfield Missouri. He has officiated both high school and college basketball games since 1974 to the present. He also officiated the NAIA II National Tournament for five years.

Steve Lucas and his wife, Molly, reside in Springfield, Missouri. They have four sons: Lance, Chase, Mike, and Chris. The Lucas’ also have one grandson.
