Tim Schmid attended Jewell from 1976-1980. He was a four year letter winner in cross country and track. Schmid participated on ten conference championship teams, four of these were cross country, 4 were outdoor track teams and two were indoor track teams. He is known as one of the finest distance runners in Jewell history. He won several titles in during his career and set a school record in the 5-mile run of 24:58. Schmid was a two-time NAIA All-American in track and once in cross country. He placed seventh in the NAIA Cross Country Championships as a senior. He also placed second in the NAIA Indoor 3-mile run and fifth in the NAIA Outdoor 10,000 as a junior. His top performance was at the 1980 NAIA Outdoor meet where he won the 10,000 meter run and placed third in the 5000 meter race.
