Tom Durnin graduated in 1968 and majored in physical education and mathematics. While at Jewell, he distinguished himself in both football and track. He was an offensive linemen in football and while it is difficult to ‘rack up’ a lot of statistics as an offensive linemen this gentleman was a special performer. Every member of the Cardinals Hall of Fame 1967 Football Team named Tom Durnin as a leader in every sense of the word. He possessed outstanding strength, speed and quickness and opened a lot of ‘holes’ for Jewell’s outstanding running backs. Tom played on four conference championship teams in football. Tom was named first team All-Conference and first team All-District.
