Weldon Stubbs was a star during the early 1990s run of great Cardinal basketball teams. A four-time All-Conference selection, he was named the HAAC and District 16 Player of the Year in 1993 and was selected to the NAIA National Tournament All-Star Team after leading the Cardinals to the Final Four. He was also a two-time All-American, earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore and second team as a junior before suffering a career-ending injury as senior. He led Jewell to 95 wins, two conference titles and two national tournament appearances as the team was ranked as high as No. 2 upon his injury. His name is scattered across the record book after scoring 1,751 career points while shooting better than 53% from the field. Weldon remained in the Liberty area upon graduation as his son Grant became the second generation to play in the Jewell men's basketball program, beginning in the fall of 2020.
