The William Jewell College men's and women's tennis teams had the honor of being guests at the All Iowa Lawn Tennis club in Charles City, Iowa for their own Wimbledon experience on Friday.

Former Iowa State Representative Mark Kuhn, an avid tennis fan, built a grass court identical to the center court of Wimbledon on his property in Iowa. Kuhn built his court because he was a fan of the sport and wants other tennis fans to be able to have an experience similar to the ones the professional players have. This was a very new experience to most of the Cardinal tennis players 

The teams even decided to live up the dream and wear all white; just like the rules for Wimbledon at The All England Club. For the women this was their first time ever being on a grass court.   For the men, three of the players had played on a grass court before; but for those who hadn't, this experience seemed to be really appreciated. 

"It was great to be able to have this chance to it on grass but also great to be able to talk to someone who enjoys tennis as much as we do," said Jewell sophomore Will Gross.  "It was an unforgetable experience and one that would be great for every tennis player."

The court is located in the middle of Kuhn's yard and surrounded by many corn fields, which makes the experience even more unique. Kuhn says he offers this court to anyone who wants to use it free of charge, and William Jewell is one of the many guests that the Kuhn family has hosted, along with Iowa State and many surrounding high school teams.

The William Jewell team's departed Charles City and headed on their way to their first dual matches for the fall season against Simpson College and Coe College in Indianola, Iowa on Saturday. 

"This was a really great way to kick off the new season," said sophomore Katy Lehenbauer.
