Cards Survive 1-0 in Double Overtime Against Wisconsin-Parkside

Box Score

The William Jewell College men's soccer team earned a hard fought 1-0 victory in double overtime today over University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisc.

William Jewell got off to a great start and controlled possession early on.  The Cards also got first crack at a goal opportunity with Rangers goalie Nick Huftalin was called for a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick for Jewell.

Cole Prather's shot on the PK was saved by Huftalin and kept the game scoreless.

The Cardinals missed another chance to take the lead with about 10 minutes to go in the half when Forrest McCurren got a shot by Huftalin only to see a Rangers defender come in and boot it away.

William Jewell had 9-4 advantage in shots in the opening half while finishing with a 23-16 cushion overall. They also created 15 corner kicks compared to seven for the Rangers.

In the second overtime, senior Troy Green came in unmarked on the right side and received a cross from Forrest McCurren. Green tapped it in for his 11th goal of the year and 7th goal in the last three games to give the Cardinals their seventh GLVC win of the season.

The Cardinals, 9-5 on the season will take on Lewis University on Sunday, October 16 at 3:30 p.m. in Somers, Wisc.
