The William Jewell College softball team was swept in non-conference double header against Newman University losing by scores of 2-1 and 1-0 in Wichita, Kan.
In game one, the Cards got on the board in the top of the first when
Faith Song led off the game with a solo homerun. Newman answered back with single runs in the bottom of the first and bottom of the second.
Amanda Storm (5-6) was solid for the Cardinals, giving up only two runs in seven innings, scattering nine hits and striking out one. Sarah Fipps (3-18) earned the win for Newman as she tossed seven innings giving up five hits and one run while striking out four.
Game two featured Newman scoring its only run on a solo homerun by right fielder Kelsey Jones in the bottom of the first inning.
Peyton Riedel (1-2) earned the win for Newman hurling four innings giving up only four hits but walked three. Fipps tossed two innings to earn the save for Newman.
Faith Song tossed six impressive innings giving up only five hits, one run and one walk while striking out one.
The Cardinals, 21-22 on the season will host University of Missouri S&T on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.
