The William Jewell College men's tennis team fell 5-0 to University of Southern Indiana in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday in Indianapolis, Ind. The Cardinals finish their spring season with a 9-9 record this spring good for fourth place in the GLVC Western Division.
Jewell came out of doubles play down 3-0 as
Shane Giannetti and
Bryan Thomas lost a tough 8-5 match at No. 1 doubles.
Bronson Brassel and
Max Cooper fell 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and
Jimmy Hunter and
Michael Wiskirchen dropped an 8-3 decision at No. 3 doubles.
USI then needed only two more victories to advance and they were able to do so with wins over Thomas No. 2 singles and
over Brassel at No. 3 singles.
Giannetti earned All-GLVC first team honors for the second consecutive season.
“Our team worked really hard this season and I am very proud of them,” said head coach
Paul Worstell. “We return a solid nucleus for next season and I am excited for what lies ahead for our men's program .”
