Al Conway transferred from West Point with just one year of eligibility for the Cardinals and enjoyed quite a year, scoring 133 points which included 22 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,325 yards (averaging 9.8 yards per carry) and completed 16 passes for 379 yards. He caught nine passes for 270 yards, seven of which were for touchdowns. In total, Conway posted 1,704 offensive yards. He was a MCAU champion in the 100-yard dash, 440-yard dash, shot put and discus and was named Jewell's Athlete of the year.
Conway was also selected to the Little All-American Team and was the number one draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL.
