The Jewell men's basketball team came very close to knocking off one of the nation's elite Division II programs on the road in Highland Heights, KY, forcing overtime against Northern Kentucky before dropping a 76-72 decision on Thursday night.

Craig Mattson hit a 3-point shot late in regulation to tie the game.  Sophomore guard DeVonte Bell, with 19 points and 7 rebounds in his first start of the season, led the Cardinals.   Nick Larson had 15 points and 11 rebounds, Mark Mason chipped in 13 points before fouling out late in regulation, and Mattson ended the game with 11 points and 3 assists.

Jewell (4-5, 1-2 in the GLVC)returns to action in Louisville, KY Saturday afternoon against  #5 Bellarmine University.  The tip-off is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. CST.  Coverage on the WJC Sports Network will begin at approximately 2:00 p.m. CST.
