The William Jewell College women's tennis team fell 5-0 to Lewis University in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday in Indianapolis, Ind. The Cardinals finish their spring season with a 14-7 record good for fourth place in the GLVC Western Division.
Jewell came out of doubles play down 3-0 as
Kristen Stivers and Lehenbauer dropped an 8-0 decision at No.1 doubles. Loree and
Conner Hazelrigg and
Jaimie Baker and
Savannah Drew each lost by scores of 9-7 at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles respectively.
Needing only two more victories to advance the Flyers earned wins over Stivers at No.1 singles and over
Hana Lindbloom at No. 2 singles.
The Cardinals did not leave the tournament empty handed however, as Stivers and
Carli Bisesi were named to the GLVC All-Conference First team. This marks the second and third players to be named All-Conference since Jewell entered the GLVC last season.
“We had a great season and I am very proud of our team,” said head coach
Paul Worstell. “It is sad to know that we lose three seniors but we have an outstanding recruiting class coming in and I fully believe we will be able to continue to build on the success we had this season.”
