William Jewell's sophomore outfielder
Rachel Potvin has been selected the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week, as was announced by the league on Monday.
Potvin batted .562 (9-for-16) with a .625 slugging percentage last week, helping William Jewell win four GLVC games and two key non-conference matchups. On the week, she recorded nine hits, eight stolen bases, seven runs, four RBIs, and three walks. In Tuesday's doubleheader against Heartland Conference member Newman, Potvin set a school record with seven stolen bases in a game. She scarfed five in the Cardinals 8-2 win in game one, and two in game two, while adding four hits and four runs scored in the twin bill. In the weekend's doubleheader victories over Drury, Potvin was 5-for-6 with two runs scored, one RBI, and seven put outs. William Jewell closed out its week at Missouri S&T, in which Potvin went 2-for-4 at the plate en route to two shutouts over the Lady Miners, 3-0 and 5-0, respectively.
The Topeka, Kan., native leads the Cardinals in batting average (.430), runs scored (41), stolen bases (17), sacrifice bunts (8), and is second in walks (15). This marks the first ever Softball Player of the Week honor for William Jewell.
