Box Score Jewell broke open a scoreless tie with a 6 run 5th inning in the opening round of the GLVC Championship softball tournament, and held on to win 6-3.
The Cardinals (31-13) turned four double plays in the first four innings to highlight the early going, but it was the six-run, six-hit fifth inning that propelled Jewell to a winner's bracket matchup with Western champ Missouri-St. Louis starting at approximately 6 p.m. tonight.
Rachel Hayden (13-4) took the win in the circle, going five innings and allowing one run on nine hits before giving way to
Corinne Frei, who gave up two runs on four hits in the final two innings of the game.
Megan Risetter, who had to leave the game late after being hit by a line drive, sparked the fifth inning rally with a two-run home run.
Lexy Rozmus had a two-run single,
Brittany Madsen had an RBI double, and
Rachel Potvin had an RBI bunt double scoring a runner from second base.
Potvin was the only Cardinal to have two hits in the game. Jewell was outhit 13 to 8 in the contest.
