Box Score William Jewell opened the 2014 Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Championships with a 3-0 loss to #4 seed Bellarmine University. The Cardinals now fall to the elimination bracket later on Friday.
Jewell managed just one hit off GLVC Player of the Year Ally Foster, while
Rachel Hayden went 5.1 innings and allowed three runs on nine hits. The lone Cardinal hit came with two outs in the seventh inning, when
Kelsey Morgan singled to right field.
Bellarmine struck for single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings against Hayden (14-8). The Cardinals made no errors in the game.
The #5 seeded Cardinals play Rockhurst University, the #8 seed, at approximately 3:00 CDT; Rockhurst dropped a 13 inning decision to #1 seed Indianapolis in the first round.
