Cardinals Eliminated from GLVC Tournament

The William Jewell softball team suffered two losses on Thursday and were eliminated from at the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament. The Cardinals dropped the opener, 4-1, to No. 25 McKendree before falling 6-3 to Indianapolis to drop to 28-22 on the season. 

GAME 1
Final: 4-1, Loss (McKendree)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B1: McKendree jumped on top early with a two-out solo home run in the first inning. (1-0, MCK)
  • B5: The Bearcats got a big inning, scoring three runs on three hits in the fifth to extend their lead to four. (4-0, MCK)
  • T7: Doubles from Madelynne Greenstreet and Courtney Beatty put Jewell on the board but the Cards could get no closer. (4-1, MCK)

PITCHERS
Win: Miranda Gajewski (21-5) earned the win going all seven innings, allowing a single earned run and four hits. 
Loss: Sarah Lewis (7-6) suffered the loss, giving up four earned runs and scattering seven hits.

GAME 2 
Final: 6-3, Loss (UIndy)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B1: A walk and a double led to the first run of the game as the Greyhounds got on the board first. (1-0, UIndy)
  • T4: Beatty tied the game in the fourth frame with a solo home run, her sixth of the season, over the center field wall. After a single from Lewis and Kelsey Morgan's team-leading 27th walk of the year, Lindsay Glynn ripped a two-out triple down the right field line to put Jewell on top. (3-1, Jewell)
  • B5: UIndy got a big inning in the fifth, scoring five home runs on four hits and a Cardinal error to retake the lead. (6-3, UIndy)


PITCHERS
Win: Haylie Foster (11-2) got the win in relief, tossing 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits. 
Loss: Anna Biondo (13-11) got the loss allowing just two earned runs.

ON DECK
The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 7 in the Midwest Regional poll and will await the NCAA-II at large bid selections to determine if the 2018 season will continue.
