Eisenhauer Appointed Director of Athletics

William Jewell College President Dr. Elizabeth MacLeod Walls announced on Monday that Tom Eisenhauer has been appointed to the full-time role of Director of Athletics, effective August 1. He has served in the interim role since March 2017, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the athletic department.

"Tom's leadership of Cardinal Athletics during a time of transition has been impressive. He hit the ground running making some key, positive changes—and he has a vision for the future that is focused on student success and community engagement," MacLeod Walls said.

A 2006 William Jewell graduate, Eisenhauer has been a member of the Cardinal community for more than 15 years, as a student-athlete, coach and athletic administrator. In an email to the Jewell community, MacLeod Walls stated that he will primarily be responsible for assisting the president and cabinet in setting and pursuing a vision for the future of Cardinal Athletics with a focus on three key elements: appreciation for the mission and philosophy; a positive and balanced student-athlete experience; and winning as a key element of student satisfaction and alumni engagement. He will continue to oversee all aspects of the athletic department and promote a strong and positive culture within Jewell Athletics as members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference and NCAA-II.

"I am honored to be selected to serve as the Athletic Director at Jewell," said Eisenhauer. "I am grateful for the opportunity and I look forward to building upon the rich 135-year tradition of Cardinal Athletics and will commit myself daily to support our student-athletes as they pursue excellence in academics and athletics - and since we're talking about sports, we're going to have some fun along the way."

Eisenhauer joined the athletic administration in September 2016 as the Associate Athletic Director, coordinating the game-day experience and assisting the areas of compliance, events, and facilities. Prior to working in administration, he served as the head track and field and cross country coach from 2009-2016, during which time he led former three-time NCAA-II All-American Blake Alexander and GLVC Heptathlon champion Margaret Perko, among many other accomplishments.

As a Jewell student-athlete from 2002-2006, he was a national qualifier and an All-Conference performer in the 400-meter hurdles, as well as earning All-Conference honors in the 600-meter and 4x400 relay, and graduated as the school record holder in both events. He was also a four-time recipient of the Cardinal Scholar-Athlete award.

Eisenhauer earned his undergraduate degree in history from William Jewell in 2006, followed by a master's in health and physical education from Northwest Missouri State in 2009. He is married to another former William Jewell student-athlete Ashley (Hughes) Eisenhauer and is the father of two children.
