The William Jewell men's tennis team split a pair of matches in the St. Joseph's College Invitational in Michigan City, Ind., on Saturday. The Cards fell 9-0 to fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Lewis University before coming back with a 7-2 win over The University of St. Francis.
In the first match of the day the Flyers went up on the Cards in doubles play 3-0 with wins a No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by scores of 8-4 and 8-1 and 8-5.
Lewis then picked up wins at No.1 and No. 2 singles to clinch the match.
The Jewell men rebounded for a 7-2 win over The University of St. Francis.
The Cards came out of doubles up 2-1 with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles respectively. Sophomore
Bryan Thomas picked up 7-5, 6-2 straight set win at No. 2 singles and junior
Bronson Brassel picked up a win at No.3 singles 6-1, and 6-1. Sophomore
Max Cooper came away with the match clinching win for the Cardinals at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Jewell also received wins from first-year players
Eric Dailey and
Jimmy Hunter.
The Cardinals improved to 4-1 on the year and will take on St. Joseph's College Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
