ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Are you interested in a career in athletics, business, marketing or other related field? The William Jewell Athletics Department has various internship opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience. Each of these internships are eligible for academic credit, upon approval by assigned faculty.Â
General Departmental Expectations
- Currently enrolled and in good standing at William Jewell College
- A desire to gain experience and knowledge in a college athletics settingÂ
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and stay organizedÂ
- Maintain professional appearance as required by the position/supervisor
- Maintain professional conduct at all times
- Must work well as a team while also being self-motivated
- Maintain confidentiality at all timesÂ

Student-Athletes in single semester sports are not eligible for Athletics Department internships during during their an in-season semester due to time requirements. Multi-semester sport will be handled on a case-by-case basis.Â

ATHLETICS COMMUNICATION
Summary
Work closely with the Communication team to assist with different facets of coverage and promotion of Jewell Athletics
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist at home athletic events in areas including, but not limited to, statistics, photography, videography, and broadcasting
- Create social media content, game programs, photos, and videos to promote the Athletics Department and its teams as assigned
- Assist with general office work including, but not limited to, archiving photos, updating record books, career highs, game notes, etc.Â
- Update the athletics website as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Willingness and ability to work nights, weekends, and during scheduled College closures
- Knowledge of Adobe Suite, various social media platforms and video editing (Adobe Premier, Final Cut Pro, etc.)
- Strong media writing skills, including basic knowledge of Associated Press style
- Ability to ask questions and be self-motivatedÂ
- Working knowledge of a broad range of sports and willingness to learn new sportsÂ
- Ability to work outside in various weather conditions
- Excellent time management skills
GLVC SPORTS NETWORK
Summary
Work closely with the Communication team to execute GLVC Sports Network broadcasts from start to finish and develop an understanding of sports productionÂ
Duties & ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Set up production equipment and operate software during contest(s)
- Operate cameras, working with the producer for applicable shots during a broadcast
- Assist and run production meetings working with the Communication team and student workers in their responsibilitiesÂ
Preferred Qualifications
- Majoring in public relations, communication, business administration or related program
- Willingness to learn equipment setup and operation
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written capacity
- Ability to work without direct supervision, ask questions, and be self-motivated
- Working knowledge of a broad range of sports and willingness to learn new sports
- Ability to work outside in a various weather conditions
ATHLETICS MARKETING & DEVELOPMENT
Summary
Provide students with an opportunity to create, implement and manage initiatives to help Cardinal Athletics create and maintain outstanding game environments and supplemental revenue streams
Duties & Responsibilities
Students will work with the Deputy Athletics Director, Associate Athletics Director and other member of the Athletics Department to identify revenue opportunities including, but not limited to:
- Sponsorship and advertising partnerships
- Ticket sales and season passes
- Merchandise and licensing
- Fundraising and donations
- Partnerships with media outlets
- Corporate sponsorship of facilities
- Special events and tournaments
- Football game day parking
Students will work with Student Life, Student Senate, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to identify opportunities and initiatives for enhanced game environments including, but not limited to:Â
- Game promotions & themes
- Timeout/Halftime entertainment & contests Â
- Giveaways
- Social media content
- Fulfillment of sponsorships
- Increased attendance and campus engagementÂ
In both areas, students will apply analytical thinking when exploring and forecasting the viability of opportunities
- Resource allocation and availability (people, time, financial)
- Develop planning and implementation sessions

- Majoring in business administration, communication, public relations, or related programs
- Willingness and ability to work nights, weekends, and during schedule College closures

ATHLETICS MANAGEMENT
Summary
Gain valuable experience in multiple areas of collegiate athletics - ideal for individuals pursuing a career in collegiate or professional sports managementÂ
Duties & ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Â Spend 2-4Â weeks with each of the following offices in the Athletics Department on a rotation
- Alumni & Advancement
- Communication
- Events & Equipment
- NCAA Compliance
- Observe and assist with on-going projects and tasks in each office during assigned segmentÂ
Preferred Qualifications
- Majoring in business administration (sports management) or related program with desire to pursue a career in collegiate or professional sports
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management skills
ATHLETICS OPERATIONS
Summary
Work closely with the Manager of Athletics Events and Facilities to plan and execute game day from start to finishÂ
Duties & ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Work with event staff to coordinate all facets of game day
- Build professional skills by communicating event information to visiting coaches and officials and serve as the game day contact for visitors
- Gain experience in staffing, scheduling, training, and game timelines preparation
- Gain experience while serving as the Game Administrator and have responsibility for total preparation and execution of at assigned contest(s)
- Opportunity to co-manage the Equipment Room student staff, assisting in communication, scheduling, training, and game preparationÂ
Preferred Qualifications
- Majoring in business administration or related program
- Willingness and ability to work nights, weekends, and during academic breaks
- Adequate writing skills and attention to detail
- Working knowledge of a broad range of sports and willingness to learn new sports
- Ability to work outside in various weather conditionsÂ
HIGH SCHOOL HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
Summary
Work alongside the men's basketball coaching staff and event staff to plan and execute the High School Holiday Classic which brings in more than 5,000 people to the Mabee Center each winter
Duties & ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Assist with various tasks involved with planning the tournament
- Gain experience in organizing a large scale eventÂ
- Available for all sessions of the Holiday Classic from 8 a.m. - 11 p.m. December 27-30, 2025
- Assess their success through comparison to past events and evaluate new strategies for improvement in future years
