The William Jewell College men's tennis team traveled to Kearney, Neb., on Friday afternoon for a match up with No. 21 Nebraska-Kearney.
The Lopers took two of three doubles and five of six singles matches to down the Cards 7-2 and remain undefeated on the young season.
Nebraska-Kearney started out with a dominating win at No. 3 doubles 8-1. Jewell dropped an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles before the first-year tandem of
Timo Kiesslich and
Bjorn Myers prevented the doubles shutout prevailing 8-4 at No. 2.
UNK won five straight singles matches all in straight sets before Kiesslich came back to win a three set thriller 6-7, 6-2, 10-8 at No. 3 singles. Kiesslich, a native of Diez Germany, remains undefeated in singles on the season.
The Cardinals 2-3 overall will wrap up their Nebraska road trip with two matches tomorrow. The Cards will face off with Nebraska Wesleyan at 8:30 a.m. followed by a match with Baker University at 12:30 p.m. at the Knight Fieldhouse in Lincoln.
