Devin Hance Selected to Lead Powerlifting Program

William Jewell College Director of Athletics Tom Eisenhauer is pleased to announced the addition of Devin Hance as the first head coach of the new men's and women's powerlifting program.

Hance comes to the Cardinals after spending one year at KC Speed and Sport working with professional, college, and high school athletes. He was most recently at the collegiate level during the 2018-2019 year as he served on the strength staff at Missouri-Kansas City, working primarily with the basketball, tennis, volleyball, softball, golf, soccer, and track and field and cross country teams. He also spent one year at Riverton High School in Kansas as the powerlifting coach and strength and conditioning teacher.

He got his start at Pittsburg State University as a graduate assistant during which time he taught elective courses and assisted student-athletes in the weight room.

Hance is an active member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Kansas Association for Health-Physical Education-Recreation-Dance and the National High School Strength and Conditioning Association. He holds a Certified Strength and Conditioning Certificate, USA-Weightlifting Olympic Certification and Red Cross-First Aid/CRP/AED certification.

"We are excited to welcome Devin Hance to the Jewell community," said Eisenhauer. "This is a sport that continues to grow in our region and he brings a wealth of knowledge and a lot of energy to a new program."

A native of Joplin, Missouri, he earned his undergraduate degree in physical education with a minor in coaching and a master's in human health and performance, both from Pittsburg State.

William Jewell will field a men's and women's powerlifting team for the first time beginning in the fall of 2020, becoming the department's 21st and 22nd varsity sports. Jewell will be one of only three institutions in the Kansas City region to offer powerlifting and Olympic Lifting. Fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference members Lindenwood and McKendree also field similar programs.
