SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The William Jewell women's basketball team got off to a slow start offensively and could not recover, falling 75-49 on Monday evening at Illinois Springfield to drop to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Tied at four-all early, Illinois Springfield forced 25 first half turnovers by the Cardinals as the home team broke out to a 43-17 lead at the intermission. 
• Jewell won the third quarter, 19-13, sparked by back-to-back triples from Jalea Price and Alex McGarrah. A bucket from Jacee Peterson and consecutive layups by Taryn Jacobs pulled the Cardinals within 17 late in the period. 
• In the final frame, the Prairie Stars shot 50% from the floor to expand their advantage back to 28, finishing off the 75-49 win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Peterson came off the bench to lead the Cardinals with 13 points with Price adding nine. 
• Jewell out-rebounded the Stars 45-39 led by Syderah Farmer who had a team high nine rebounds while Jacobs grabbed eight.
