LIBERTY, Mo. - In the Great Lakes Valley Conference home opener, the William Jewell women's basketball team broke out to an early 15 point lead but Southwest Baptist rallied to win 60-58 on Thursday evening. The Cardinals drop to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Trailing 9-5 early, a three from Syderah Farmer sparked a 14-0 run that resulted in a 18-9 advantage after one period for the Cardinals. After hitting two three pointers in the opening 10 minutes, Jewell hit five more in the second frame, led by two from Jalea Price to lead 36-26 at the break. 
• Southwest Baptist chipped away at the deficit in the third quarter, pulling within three late but another Farmer triple made it a six point game headed into the final 10 minutes. Alex McGarrah's layup to open the fourth put Jewell in front by eight but the Bearcats followed with 17-5 run to eventually take a four point lead with under three minutes to go. A jumper by Taryn Jacobs pulled Jewell within one but SBU got a late free throw as Jewell could not connect in the final minute.

• Price led three Cardinals in double figures with a season high 17 points while Farmer posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. McGarrah added a career high 11 points to go with three steals. 
• Jewell out-rebounded the Bearcats 42-39 with 11 offensive rebounds
