LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team improved in every set on Friday night but fell 3-0 to Rockhurst University to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Cardinals drop to 1-11 on the season and 0-1 in league action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Rockhurst came out firing, grabbing an early 16-4 lead but the Cardinals put together a 6-0 run behind Alexis Nunn's serve to pull back within six. The Hawks finished the set on a 9-3 run of their own to take the opener, 25-13. 
• It was Jewell with the early advantage in set two, leading 4-1, before the Hawks rallied 19-5 run to take a commanding 20-9 lead. The Cardinals got kills from Macy Bartlett, Sarah Madsen, and Kelsey Keling to pull back within eight but Rockhurst finished things off 25-14. 
• The Cardinals again held an early lead, 6-2 after another Madsen kill. Rockhurst went in front 18-12 midway through before Silvia Fisher came off the bench to spark a rally with two kills and get Jewell back within 22-20. The Hawks won three of the final four points to wrap up the set, 25-21.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Cardinals finished with six blocks, led by Wylie Singleton's four, to go with her five kills. 
• Reaghan Bible finished with 12 digs and 10 assists with Alexis Frazier handing out a dozen helpers. 
• Bartlett had a team high six kills while Nunn had two aces. 
• Jewell hit a match high .231 in set three with 11 kills.
