Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Comeback Effort Falls Short Against Quincy

LIBERTY, Mo. - After an early deficit the William Jewell women's basketball team made it a single digit game in the third quarter but could not complete the comeback, falling 70-52 to Quincy University on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals drop to 0-17 on the season and 0-11 in the GLVC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Quincy got off to a hot start, grabbing a 16-point advantage just moments into the second quarter after holding the Cardinals scoreless for more than three minutes. A three from Rylee Thompson sparked an 8-2 Jewell run, capped by a free throw from Mandi Pham to get back within 10, but the Hawks used a 10-2 run of their own to make it 36-18 at the break.
  • Jewell owned the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 21-12. After Quincy expanded the lead to 20 a minute into the second half, Cardinals went to work using four three pointers, including three by Syderah Farmer, to cut the deficit to just seven, 46-39 with under a minute to go in the third period.
  • Quincy flipped the script in the fourth frame, scoring 22 points on a 59% clip from the field to push things back to 20. Jewell did not go quietly however, as Maja Komaszynska and Alex McGarrah's buckets helped get the Cardinals as close as 16 late.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Farmed led all scorers with a season high 19 points while McGarrah added a dozen, while both players finished with three steals.
  • Thompson pulled down a team best eight rebounds and handed out three assists.
  • Jewell grabbed 12 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second chance points and were 8-of-10 from the foul line.
