Cardinals Take On Missouri S&T on Senior Day

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday afternoon to Missouri S&T, 2-1 and 4-1. The Cardinals fall to 19-27 on the season and 10-14 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

Game 1: Missouri S&T 2, Jewell 1
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After three scoreless frames, Missouri S&T struck first in the fourth with a two run home run over the left field wall.
  • Jewell got on the board in the sixth as Sheyenne Kelch's single loaded the bases for Alexa Almejo who singled up the middle, scoring Tori Woodard.
  • The Cardinals put the tying run in scoring position in the top of the seventh but came up short.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Jewell finished with six hits, all by different players while Reagan Bennett drew two walks. 
  • Bennett (7-12) took the loss in the circle, working six strong frames with two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
     

Game 2: Missouri S&T 4, Jewell 1 (6.2 Innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Miners scored an unearned run in the opening inning of game two to take the early lead and added two more on back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the fourth. 
  • Emma Jane Ogle led off the bottom half of the fourth with a double to left before scoring on a double the other way off the bat of Avery Webster
  • Missouri S&T added a run in the following inning with an RBI single through the left side. 
  • With two outs in the top of the seventh, the game was halted due weather and after a 75 minute pause, was determined final. 


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Jewell had six hits in game two, including four doubles from Ogle, Webster, Bennett, and Amanda Chung
  • Olivia Wood (5-5) took the loss, working 3.1 frames allowing two earned runs on three hits. 
     

UP NEXT
Jewell will close the regular season next weekend on the road, stopping at Lincoln University on Saturday before a date with Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday afternoon.
