Garrett Appier coached two seasons with the Cardinals from 2019-2021 after a standout career as a student and professional athlete.

• Taylor Golden broke two school records in 2021 in the weight throw (16.87) and hammer throw (52.75) and earned All-GLVC Second Team honors

• Spent two years as a professional athlete at the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California
• Placed 10
thin the shot put at the July U.S.A. Track & Field Outdoor Championships with a throw of 66-1.75 qualifying him for the 2020 Olympic Trials
• Placed sixth at the Trials in 2016, just three spots shy of making the Olympic team
• Previously worked as an assistant coach for Frontenac High School (KS) as well on the staff at Pittsburg State under his mentor Brian Mantooth

• Was a three-time NCAA-II National Champion in the shot put at Pittsburg State
• Won four MIAA championships and was a four-time All-American
• Won his second straight outdoor national title in the shot put in 2016, going undefeated on the season and establishing a new NCAA-II Championship record of 66 feet-10 inches, giving him all 10 spots in the all-time top 10 in division II history
• Posted the sixth-best mark in the world with a heave of 68-2.5 at the Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational at Missouri Southern
• Named the Division II National Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association

• A Paola, Kan, native, he graduated with a degree in general studies from Pittsburg State and is currently pursuing a master's in human health performance.
