Cards Hold on for 2-1 Win at Illinois-Springfield

The William Jewell College women's soccer team picked-up a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon over University of Illinois-Springfield in a Great Lakes Valley Conference tilt in Springfield, Ill.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead as Sarah Franklin and Mallory Malone knocked home goals in the 9th and 20th minute respectively. Illinois Springfield picked up a goal to close the gap to 2-1 in the 61st minute but the Cardinals were able to hold them scoreless the rest of the way.

The Cardinals outshot the Lady Prairie Stars 13-11 but UIS held a 7-5 shots on goal advantage.

The Cardinals, 6-4 on the season will take on University of Missouri-St. Louis on Friday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Greene Stadium on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.
