The William Jewell College men's tennis team kicked off their 2012 spring season with a dominating 9-0 win over Concordia College in Seward, Neb., on Friday evening.
The Cardinals (1-0) started by taking all three doubles matches against the Bulldogs (0-1). Sophomores
Shane Giannetti and
Bryan Thomas won 8-1 at one doubles against Jeremy Jank and Danny Frastaci. Junior
Bronson Brassel and sophomore
Max Cooper won a close 8-6 battle at two doubles, while sophomore
Chris Reimer and first-year player
Jimmy Hunter cruised to an 8-1 victory over Jonathan Heckman and Mikey McCartney at three doubles.
Jewell followed by sweeping all six singles matches. Giannetti defeated Jank 6-3, 6-0 at the top position, while Thomas won 6-4, 6-1 over Frastaci at No. 2.
Bronson Brassel won a hard fought 6-4, 6-3 decision over Nathan Wingfield at third singles and
Max Cooper took a 6-1, 6-3 win against Heckman at No. 4. First-year player
Eric Dailey won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 against Egger and
Jimmy Hunter downed McCartney 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Cardinals will return to road action on Saturday as they take on Central College (Iowa) at 12:00 p.m. followed by a dual against Nebraska Wesleyan University with both matches taking place at the Knight Fieldhouse on the Nebraska Wesleyan campus in Lincoln, Neb.
