The William Jewell College men's tennis team traveled to Lawrence, Kansas and earned a 9-0 shutout victory over their former Heart of America Athletic Conference rival, Baker University on Tuesday.
Shane Giannetti and
Bryan Thomas played textbook doubles only dropping one game to their Baker opponents and winning 8-1. The No. 2 pairing of
Bronson Brassel and
Max Cooper had similar success with an 8-2 victory.
Jimmy Hunter and
Chris Reimer moved the Cardinals up to a 3-0 lead with their solid win of 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, the always persistent Giannetti earned a hard fought 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2,
Bryan Thomas battled for a 6-3, 6-3 win over his opponent. Sophomore
Bronson Brassel fought back from a tight first set of 7-5 to win the second set 6-1 and put the Cardinals up 6-0. No. 4 player,
Max Cooper, had two impressive sets scoring 6-1, 6-1; while No. 5 player
Eric Dailey rolled his opponent without dropping a single game.
Jimmy Hunter finalized the 9-0 victory for the Cardinals with a dominating win of 8-1 at No. 6.
The Cardinals, 7-2 on the season, will take on Missouri Valley College at Clayview Country Club in Kansas City, Mo., on Friday March 23 starting at 4:00 p.m.
