The William Jewell College men's tennis team shut out Quincy University Saturday afternoon in the team's Great Lakes Valley finale, 5-0. The match was moved indoors due to weather conditions and was stopped once a team won five matches.
The Cardinals took swept all three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
Shane Giannetti and
Bryan Thomas squeaked out a 9-7 match at No. 1 doubles while
Bronson Brassel and
Max Cooper won 8-1 at No. 2.
Jimmy Hunter and
Chris Reimer gave Jewell the sweep in doubles with their 8-3 win at No. 3.
In singles play, Giannetti won his match 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and
Bryan Thomas clinched the match for Jewell at No. 2 singles winning 6-3, 7-6.
The Cardinals finish their first season in the GLVC by finishing 3-3 in the Western Division good for fourth place which would have qualified them for the GLVC Tournament if not for the NCAA Transition rule.
Jewell, 11-6 on the spring, will take on University of Missouri-Kansas City on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo.
