Men's Soccer Impressive in 6-1 Season-Opening Win

Box Score The William Jewell College men's soccer team started off the 2012 season with a bang, defeating University of Sioux Falls, 6-1, in non-conference action Sunday afternoon in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Cards got on the board first when senior Forrest McCurren found an open net off a pass from Zane Christiansen in the opening five minutes of the game to put Jewell up 1-0.

Sioux Falls answered with a goal of their own seven minutes later to tie things up at 1.  Matt McDevitt then scored the first of his three goals at the 21:56 mark of the first half and scored five minutes later to give Jewell a commanding 3-1 lead at the half.

McCurren found the bottom left corner of the net for his second goal of the game at the 57:35 mark of the contest and Sam Braverman then scored eight minutes later.  McDevitt completed the hat trick at the 71 minute mark with an unassisted goal.

The Cards finished the game with 19 shots and 9 shots on goal while Sioux Falls tallied 11 shots with four shots on goal.

The Cardinals, 1-0 on the year, are back in action Friday September 7 when they face University of Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Ind., at 7:30 p.m.
