Box Score The William Jewell College men's soccer team used three second half goals from
Matt McDevitt,
Forrest McCurren and
Zane Christenson as the Cards blanked Southwest Baptist University 3-0, Tuesday evening in non-conference men's soccer action in Bolivar, Mo.
Jewell improves to 6-2-0 with its fifth win in the last six games.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Shane Van Hooser needed to make only one save en route to the shutout. Jewell outshot the Bearcats 29-5 and led in corner kicks 5-1. Van Hooser and the Cardinal defensive backline allowed only one shot on goal and that came in the third minute of action.
After a scoreless first half, the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute when
Matt McDevitt blasted a shot from 30 yards out in the left side of the goal off the post.
Forrest McCurren scored four minutes later to double the Cardinal advantage to 2-0 at the 68:17mark off a pass from
Pete Nechvatal.
Zane Christenson concluded the scoring with an unassisted goal at 83:17.
The Cardinals return to Great Lakes Valley Conference action for their next match, hosting University of Illinois-Springfield on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Greene Stadium in Liberty, Mo.
