The William Jewell College women's soccer team won it's first game of the season besting non-conference regional opponent Missouri Western State University 3-1 Tuesday evening at Greene Stadium in Liberty, Mo.
The Cardinals (1-0) dominated theGriffons en route to the victory in the first meeting between the two teams in school history.
Jewell scored at the 32:11 mark when Sarah Franklin scored from the left wing off a pass from Olivia Dykes.
The Cardinals kept the ball on their opponent's side of the field throughout most of the first half, outshooting the Griffons 11-3 and led 1-0 at halftime.
Missouri Western tied the game nine minutes into the second half when Ashlyn Castillo took a shot from a corner kick and found the back of the net.
Jewell killed the momentum five minutes later when Justine Dover headed home a shot from Sali Stout which put the Cards up 2-1. Franklin then scored at the 85:13 mark off a pass from Jade Gifford to put the game away.
William Jewell out shot the Griffons 21-5 and also held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The Cardinals, 1-0 on the year, are back in action Friday September 7 when they face University of Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Ind., at 5:00 p.m.
