The William Jewell men's soccer team ended their season on a stormy, rainy night in Kansas City, a night which saw the start of the match delayed nearly two hours and also included a 30 minute lightning delay during the match.
In the end, Rockhurst was too much for the Cardinals, winning 2-1. Â
Bryan Jones had the goal for Jewell, with a double assist to
Drew Dempsey and
Chad Newman.in the 28th minute. Â Rockhurst scored their goals in the 19th and 70th minutes. Â Jewell had three shots in all and two on goal, while the Hawks took 22 shots overall, 11 on goal.
Shane Van Hooser made nine saves in the match for Jewell.
The Hawks, 12-3-2 overall, finished with an 11-2-2 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and clinched a first-round home game in the GLVC Tournament on Sunday afternoon. Rockhurst will either be the third or fourth seed in the GLVC Tournament, based on the outcome of Thursday's game between Quincy and Truman State.
The Cardinals end their season 6-12 overall, and 4-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Â
