The William Jewell Cardinal men's tennis team defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University 9-0 and Bethel College 9-0 in a doubleheader at the Knight Fieldhouse in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday.
In the match against Nebraska Weselyan, Jewell began by taking all three doubles matches as
Shane Giannetti and
Bryan Thomas teamed to beat Zack Hicks and Ryan McCarty 8-0 at No. 1 and
Bronson Brassel and
Michael Rawat defeated Rene Torti and Trevor Milburn 8-3 at No. 2.
Jimmy Hunter and
Michael Wiskirchen bested Jordan Barrett and Seth Shimerda 8-2.
In singles action, Giannetti defeated Hicks 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1. Thomas won over Torti 6-4, 6-1 at the two-spot. Brassel picked up a win with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Milburn at No. 3. Rawat beat Barrett, 6-1, 6-1 at the four-spot. Hunter outlasted McCarty in 7-5, 7-6 at No. 5 and
Dean Pinhas closed out the singles sweep with his 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over Shimerda at No. 6.
Against Bethel, Jewell swept the doubles with Giannetti and Thomas defeating Clinton Chlumsky and Jesse Voth-Gaeddert 8-4 at the top spot. Brassel and
Max Cooper took care of David Tedone and Logan Palenske 8-3 at No. 2. Hunter and Wiskirchen won over Chris Soosalu and Michael Herelle 8-3 at the three-spot.
Giannetti, Thomas, Brassel, Rawat, Hunter and Pinhas each posted straight set singles wins at Nos. 1-6 respectively.
The Cardinals (2-1) will take on Nebraska-Kearney on Friday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m. in Kearney, Neb.
