The William Jewell College men's tennis team beat University of Illinois-Springfield 8-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Saturday. The Cards have now won three of their last four matches.
Jewell won all three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Jewell's No. 1 doubles team of juniors
Shane Giannetti and
Bryan Thomas earned a hard fought 8-6 win. Senior
Bronson Brassel and junior
Max Cooper won 8-4 and junior
Michael Wiskirchen and sophomore
Jimmy Hunter breezed by at No. 3 doubles 8-2.
In singles play, Giannetti got a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles.
Bryan Thomas lost a three set heartbreaker at No. 2 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 which proved to be The Prairie Stars' only point of the dual. Brassel,
Michael Rawat, Hunter and Cooper all won in straight sets.
The Cardinals will close out GLVC play tomorrow as they host Quincy University at 9:00 a.m. at Clayview Country Club.
