The William Jewell College men's tennis team dropped a tough 6-3 decision to University of Missouri-St. Louis in Great
Lakes Valley Conference action on Saturday in St. Louis, Mo.
The Cards got off to a roaring start as Jewell went up 3-0 after doubles play. Sophomore
Jimmy Hunter and junior
Michael Wiskirchen won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. Senior
Bronson Brassel and junior
Max Cooper were victorious 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and juniors
Shane Giannetti and
Bryan Thomas overcame a 7-4 deficit to win 9-8 (7-4).
Unfortunately for Jewell those were the last points they would earn as the Tritons swept the Cards in singles action.
Giannetti lost a tough three set battle at No. 1 losing 6-1, 3-6 and 6-2. Thomas lost a third set match 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Brassel lost in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Michael Rawat (6-3, 6-0),
Jimmy Hunter (6-4, 6-2) and
Max Cooper (6-2, 7-6) all lost in straight sets.
The Cardinals, 7-7 on the spring, will return to action on Wednesday, April 10 as they travel to Marshall, Mo., to take on Missouri Valley College at 3:30 p.m.
