Cardinal women's soccer had dropped back-to-back matches this week, but showed Illinois-Springfield early on that there would be no third straight loss, as Jewell defeated the Prairie Stars 2-0 in Liberty, Missouri on Friday in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The Cardinals (5-2-1, 2-1-1 in GLVC) got a goal from Sarah Franklin in the third minute and a goal from Ashley Licata in the eighth minute, and were rarely challenged in the offensive end by UIS (1-6, 0-5).

Franklin was returning from an injury suffered in pregame warmup Tuesday, and Justine Dover and Kelli Sontag also returned to the lineup after missing time with injuries.

Jewell will host Southern Indiana in a GLVC match Sunday at noon.
