Box Score The William Jewell College women's soccer team (1-0-3) earned its first victory of the 2014 season in the home opener versus Lewis University (1-3-1) 2-1 on Friday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action in Liberty, Mo.
The Cardinals struck first when
Jade Gifford found
Sydney White for a goal at the 31:39 mark of the game.
The lead was short lived at Lewis struck three minutes later when Greccia Miranda tied things up at 1-1 with a goal off an assist from Lauren Grady. The score remained tied 1-1 at halftime.
Junior
Gabby Brooks scored the game winning goal from 10 yards out for Jewell at the 56:02 mark with the assist from first-year player
Aspen Hawkins.
Jewell outshot the Flyers 24-16 and led 10-8 in shots on goal.
First-year goalkeeper
Jordan Lewis earned the win for the Cardinals with eight saves in 90 minutes of action.
William Jewell will next play host to University of Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday, September 21 at 12:00 p.m. at Greene Stadium.
