The William Jewell women's soccer team hosted Maryville University Saints for a Great Lakes Valley Conference match up on Saturday. The Cardinals and Saints fought hard through to overtime but neither team were able to find the back of the net as it ended in 0-0 tie. The Cardinals now move to 4-6-2 overall and 2-6-2 in the GLVC.
The teams first half efforts were closely matched with Jewell having a total of five shots with only two on goal. Maryville tallied three shots with one on goal.
Both teams continued to fight on through the second half only to come up short once more. A late corner kick by
Jade Gifford set up a opportunity for
Elizabeth McQueen but unfortunately it was not enough to get the Cardinals the lead sending the game into overtime.
Overtime went for the full two ten minute periods with the Cardinals exerting a full fledged effort. Maryville however, was able to battle out the last few minutes of the overtime to keep game at a draw.
Jade Gifford led the Cardinals with five shots and four on goal. Sophomore goal keeper
Jordan Lewis totaled four saves while not allowing a goal.
The Cardinals will host the Saint Josephs College on Friday, October 16 at 5:00 p.m.
