The William Jewell College men's tennis team hosted Cowley County Community College on Saturday afternoon (March 7) at Clayview Country club. 

The Cardinals dropped a 9-0 decision to the Tigers but Marc Gärtner continued to offer hope for the future. The freshman battled Cowley's Erik Eldagsen to a tiebreaker at No. 1 singles before eventually giving way, 6-3, 1-6, 10-6.

Earlier, Gärtner and Isaac Hamilton gave Cowley's No. 2 doubles team a solid run, forging a 7-6 lead before falling 9-8.  Hamilton also dropped his singles match at No. 4 in a third set tiebreak. 

The Cardinals drop to 2-4 overall and will next head to Maryville, Mo., on Wednesday, March 11 to take on Northwest Missouri State University at 3:00 p.m.
